Disney responds to criticisms by Peter Dinklage of the Snow White remake
Disney has responded to criticisms made by Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage regarding its live-action version to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Dinklage claimed that the remake of 1937's animated film, which was based on the tales that came from Brothers Grimm, was "backward". Dinklage has said Disney should have rethought the project. "I was a little taken aback by [the fact] they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White," said the actor said to the podcast host Marc Maron. "But you're still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Dinklage , who is the star of the Oscar-tipped film Cyrano has the form of dwarfism known as Achondroplasia. The first Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs film, which was released in 1938 was the first long-running animated feature by Disney and is considered to be one of Disney's most beloved films. West Side Story star Rachel Zegler and Red Notice actress Gal Gadot will be starring in the adaptation as Snow White and the Evil Queen , respectively. In a statement about the movie, Dinklage acknowledged Disney's casting of an Latina actress for the lead part, however, he said more forward-looking casting was needed for the other characters. "You're progressive in one way but you're still making that backward story of seven dwarves living in the cave," he added. "They were so proud of that, and all love and respect to the actress and the people who thought they were doing the right thing but I'm just like, 'What are you doing?'" In the statement, Disney said the live action remake would be an upgraded version of the 1937 film. "We are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community," it stated in an announcement. "We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period. Producer Oscar nominated for his work Marc Platt, who also collaborated on Disney's live action version of The Little Mermaid, is scheduled to direct the film.
