Return to Antonio Conte now, or regret it later - Jermaine Jenas ' analysis
In terms of which manager is right for Tottenham currently, the majority of my faith goes to Antonio Conte - and I believe that I represent the majority of Spurs supporters when I say this.
It's true, Sunday's performance in the match against Chelsea is an unsatisfactory one however, it was his first loss during the Premier League and there have many positives since his appointment in the beginning of November. I truly believe that the creator is building something, however, to accomplish it, he requires the right players. I've never understood the need to hire Conte when you're not going to provide him with what he wants. He's never been the type of manager who would invest hundreds of millions for his teams. However, what he wants at Spurs is a better product than what he currently has, and I believe he is entitled to this. Conte is already made a huge impact by the way he's transformed the players to form an elite team that is able to compete for the top four spots as, when he came in they weren't even close to that. It would be foolish to Tottenham chairperson Daniel Levy not to back Conte, since Conte is the only one. He is the man Daniel Levy should be looking for to be his team's manager for the coming five years, therefore Levy has to take him seriously. If Levy would lose Conte for refusing to provide him with what he needs I'd be worried about the backlash from the Spurs supporters, as they consider him to be their only chance to move forward. I'm the same backing Conte and providing him with the tools will help him compete for the top spots shouldn't be considered as a bet. Why shouldn't you support him? Conte was quite evident in his post-match interviews after the latest defeat to Chelsea The third occasion Spurs have been defeated by Chelsea during the month of March - that the difference between both teams as well as the gap between Spurs as well as Manchester City or Liverpool, is huge. He's right, and it won't change with the addition of a few signings prior to the transfer window is closed next week. The gap between the top three players will take long and significant investment to fill in. The only thing at stake currently is fourth place in the league this season. The right player this moment could be the difference between being successful as well or failing to make it, which could be a huge factor in the next game. The main point is that Conte isn't in the position is required - and what we witnessed in Stamford Bridge on Sunday was an obvious example of this. Spurs are an incredibly improved team due to his presence, however at the moment they're probably going to finish seventh or sixth and not fourth. What can be done to change this? It's true that Wolves have a winger Adama Traore is among the players considered for an transfer to Spurs this month. And there is speculation about whether Conte could utilize him as a wing-back as the one he played with Victor Moses at Chelsea. It's a significant move for Traore however, and we're not sure how Traore will react to it. I'd love to see him sign , but I would not make his a priority because There are many other areas Spurs must strengthen particularly midfield. I'm not concerned over Spurs scoring goals, but achieving them is a challenge. There are a few very stable players in their midfield however, there's a deficiency of creativity and flair within the squad. Tanguy Ndombele destined to be the player, but Spurs aren't getting an earful out of him , therefore they should get remove the player and get an alternative player. If it's just one player who is brought in this week, it will have a star midfielder, like the teams in the top tier of the table.
